Artistic Citizenship

Young artists are increasingly being called upon to take a stance that sees the importance of artistic events not only in terms of art itself, but also from a social perspective. Reaching out to new target groups in the population, involving the audience in the artistic performance, and entering into new collaborations with partners in the city or the region are just a few of the demands now placed on artists in all disciplines. As a place of education and as an employer, KUG sees itself as part of an open society and believes that art, culture and scholarship harbour special potential for change that takes account of the diversity of society in terms of gender, age, religion and belief, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability. The teaching staff at KUG leverages this potential to reinforce an attitude of artistic citizenship among students, empowering them to open up new spaces for art in society and to practise their profession within them. In this way, the arts are seen as a social practice that can help intercultural differences bear fruit and encourage students to harness their potential for innovation and change.

Arts of Change – Change of Arts

Changing the world through art!

What role do art, students and universities play in shaping a sustainable future? The Arts of Change – Change of Arts project offers an opportunity for advanced training in methods and strategies relating to ‘art, sustainability and socio-ecological transformation’, networking with students from all six Austrian universities of the arts, and implementing trans- and interdisciplinary projects connected with this topic. By taking part, you become part of an inter-university network of students who have come together to help to shape socio-ecological transformation and advocate for sustainable development.
