Social

Participation in culture strengthens communal life and cohesion in a diverse, highly individualised society. Universities focused on the arts can play a significant role in this. KUG therefore addresses the social dimension of its mission on several levels: as an educational institution, as an organiser of cultural initiatives, and as an employer.

KUG aims to ensure:

  • The admission procedures for degree courses at KUG do not entail social selection, while guaranteeing equal opportunities for different groups throughout the entire process.
  • Admission to degree courses is equally feasible for all of those eligible for admission, and is not affected by social factors.
  • Opportunities for making progress and completing a degree is equally high for all students, regardless of social factors.

KUG's social commitment also includes support for people with special needs, gender & diversity, a better balance between work/study and care obligations and promoting occupational health. As an interface between students, graduates and the university, the Career Service Centre (CSC) also plays a major role in these efforts.

Musicians’ health

In conjunction with all of the heads of institutes and chairs of the curricular committees, health promotion initiatives for arts-related professions are to be expanded and stepped up for all students and teachers at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The Career Service Centre and the Personal Development department will continue to offer information events and workshops to raise awareness of risks in art-related professions. A multi-level, multi-perspective concept will also be devised, covering research, teaching, prevention and diagnostics in equal measure. Specific events relating to this topic will be integrated into the teaching content (through free electives and obligatory courses). A selection of special topics for Master's theses and the option of focusing on musicians’ health as part of a Master’s degree in vocal and instrumental music education will provide an academic grounding in this subject.
