University Council

The University Council is the university’s supervisory body. It is one of the university’s highest governing bodies along with the Rectorate, the rector and the Senate.

The University Council’s duties in accordance with Section 21 of the Austrian Universities Act (Universitätsgesetz – UG) include

  • appointing the rector
  • appointing the vice rectors
  • approving the Rectorate’s rules of procedure
  • approving the closing of accounts
  • approving the knowledge survey
  • approving the development plan
  • approving the draft performance agreement

The University Council is responsible to the rector and the Rectorate for monitoring and controlling in the event of imminent grave infringements (Section 21 UG) or if the Rectorate or Senate fail to perform their duties (Sections 20, 47 UG).

The University Council acts as an intermediary between the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and its governing bodies on the one hand and the state and society on the other hand.

Members of the University Council are not bound by specific orders or instructions.
